At this moment, as the country continues to deal with a global health and economic crisis, GivingTuesday, the groundbreaking global generosity movement, announced that Tuesday, May 5, 2020, is #GivingTuesdayNow, a global day of giving and unity, as an emergency response to the enormous need caused by COVID-19.
We are encouraged to show generosity in a variety of ways, following public health guidelines, during #GivingTuesdayNow -- whether by helping a neighbor, advocating for an issue, sharing a skill, or giving to causes, every act of generosity counts.
Since the Stay-At-Home orders, we have continued to support our OCS students and families by:
- Providing meals to any local student that needs it. We are averaging 650 meals per week!
- Ensuring that every OCS student has access to a device, such as a Chromebook, in order to actively participate in his or her educational growth through a distance-learning program. We have checked out over 120 devices!
- Planning for a completely new way to teach our students is no small feat. Our teachers and support staff have been learning new programs and techniques to ensure that all students can access the new material as they continue learning in a distance-learning model.
- Preparing families for this new school at home world has been challenging, but the enthusiasm of Our Community has been inspirational.
Your support on May 5th will ensure that OCS students will continue to grow as empowered, ethical, and informed community members during this crisis and beyond. OCS is missing some large spring fundraisers by being home. If you have the means, your support will help us meet our current annual budget.
Every dollar counts. Your generosity will have an immediate impact on 450 students, their families, and this community for years to come.
